The Heeley Trophy is awarded to the best Club overall taking into account all age groups. This year it has been won by BIRCHFIELD HARRIERS with 815 points from STRATFORD UPON AVON AC on 623 points then COVENTRY GODIVA HARRIERS on 563 points. Well done to all at Birchfield on their success. The photograph shows the Birchfield U13 boys team which won their age group with a score of 24 points. They are Ash Burgess, Charlie Smith and Kai Hand. The full points can be seen in the results pages.

Some very good news to start the year that is almost upon us. Kelly Sotherton of Birchfield Harriers and Dave Phillips of Massey Fergusson have both been awarded an MBE. Kelly’s award recognises her “services to Track and Field Athletics and the Promotion of Women’s Sport” and Dave’s recognises his considerable “Charitable Fundraising”. Well done both.

Warwickshire County AA 2019 annual performance awards

Endurance Trophy – Jack Gray of Cambridge & Coleridge AC

Ellis Trophy – Lewis Byng of Stratford Upon Avon AC

The President of Warwickshire County AA, for 2019 Becky Freeman, awards two annual trophies – the Endurance Trophy for the best endurance performance by a County athlete and the Ellis trophy for the best non-endurance performance.

For the Endurance Trophy, Becky has chosen Jack Gray who competes for Cambridge & Coleridge, but started his athletics career at BRAT.   Jack won the Midland Cross Country Champs and was 8^th in the National Cross Country Champs at Leeds. In 2019 Jack lowered his 5,000m and 10,000m pb’s on the track and is ranked 10^th in the Country over 10,000m. He has also lowered all his pb’s over all distances on the road from 5k up to half marathon and is ranked 2^nd over 5 miles and 7^th over the half marathon.

For the Ellis Trophy, Becky has chosen  Lewis Byng of Stratford Upon Avon AC for his 8^th place at the U20 European Championships, in Boras, Sweden. Lewis won the U20 and U23 England Champships this year and is the first athlete to win both titles on the same weekend. His PB of 19.14m ranks him 2^nd on the UK U20 all-time list and he is currently ranked 1^st U20 in the UK and is 19^th in the world as a first year U20.
