County Track and Field Championships – Awards

We have already announced that Stratford Upon Avon AC has won the Warwick Vase which goes to the best Club overall based on points for positions in finals. Stratford first won the Trophy at the 2016 Championships and have held it ever since then. That makes fours years in a row – well done to the Club and all their athletes.

We also give an award to the best performance in each group. It is difficult to compare different events and the results are often very close. This years winners are shown below.

Others who were in the running and so deserve an honourable mention are Jack Wooton,
Lily Smith, Jake Minshull, Finlay White, Isabelle Male, Jai Sispal, Stephen AwuahBaffour,
Madeleine Wapples, Leah Okorhi, Jack Sumner, Ben Hawkes and Cassie Ann Pemberton.

The Jack Hartley Trophy is awarded to the individual who we judge to have recorded the best performance overall (taken from those above). This year it goes to Lewis Byng of Stratford Upon Avon AC for his shot put of 17.07m which is 3m further than a grade 1 and over 2m further than the previous County record which was set in 16 years ago. Well done Lewis.

More on the U17M coincidences…….

Check out the story of the U17M 800m record below. I had not spotted this when updating the web site but not only did Charlie Eastaugh win the race after Jai Sispal but the two of them both recorded exactly the same time of 1.57.74 to the hundredth of a second!!!

2019 Stratford Upon Avon AC retain the Warwick Vase

The Warwick Vase is awarded to the WCAA Club which scores the most points over the two days of the County Champs. Stratford Upon Avon AC won it for the first time in 2016 then retained it since then. The Club has retained it again with a terrific points win of 300 points more than their nearest rivals, Birchfield Harriers. Coventry Godiva Harriers finished third.

2019 County Track and Field Championships

A big thank you to all of the technical officials, volunteers, members of Nuneaton Harriers, the Pingles Ground staff and our sponsor Coventry Runner. It would not have happened without them. At the risk of embarrassing them and offending anybody I dont mention by name – a particular thank you to Nick Wilson (the stadium manager), Katie Lea (the Meeting Secretary) and Maggie Murphy (the officials coordinator).

The results are all on the Championship page split by Track, Field, Quadkids and then separate for Saturday and Sunday. The new records set over the weekend are also there – but please let us know of any errors or omissions.

A particular word about the U17M 800m record. It is very rare for a track event to have two people holding a record with exactly the same time but the record for this event is held joint by three athletes – and all of them are from Leamington C&AC.
They are Charlie Eastaugh (2007), Jean-Francois Lignier (2005) and Eddie Bowen (1992). The record was broken on Sunday by Jai Sispal – who is also from the C&AC!
By coincidence Charlie Eastaugh was there to see his record broken because he ran (and won) the Senior Mens 800m just afterwards.
I dont want to take anything away from Jai’s tremendous run but with hand timing we would now have four C&AC athletes holding the same record !!!!
